Urban insertion
The reconstruction operation of the migrant social housings on rue de Buchelay in Mantes-la-Jolie is part of a plan to treat homes, in which Coallia is one of the main players.
In a predominantly industrial and commercial urban fabric without quality, the Coallia home is located next to an Adoma home, a factory and a railway line.
The operation has three strong challenges:
The renewal of an architectural and urban image of this sector today considered neglected;
Improving the quality of life for the residents: this will be done through an autonomous, diversified, welcoming accommodation offer, a vector of conviviality and solidarity, secure and with easy maintenance;
The inclusion of innovative solutions in the project and the use of bio-based materials in an eco-responsible constructive approach.
Our architectural project will be keen to break with the image of blocks and buildings bars that have long been the architectural vocabulary of homes, while integrating the urban and technical constraints particularly strong on this site.
The necessary distance from the railway tracks to minimize expensive acoustic treatments, combined with the north / south orientation of the plot, lead us to propose a comb project where the housing units are mainly oriented east / west and where no window opens. to the north on the railway side.
Facade, volumes, operation
We worked in order to split the volumes into "households", with a desire for residentialization displayed even if it is a single building. From the public road, a single main access, visible from the management offices, leads to the hall and serves the entire building.
If there is a material that conveys a message of domesticity that breaks with the image of "large complexes", wood is the first. This bio-based material meets environmental ambitions for constructive innovation in prefabrication channel.
